Lyrics
Scratches and Scrapes
Now the sun is setting on this day
Lays its shadow on another phase, time to close up shop
Another chapter, same old set of rules
Written by the lonely fools who can't give up
He spent years swimming against the tide
Has the feeling he's outwitted life, little does he know
There's no two ways about certain things
You sometimes need the mess you're in but acceptance is hard
Can't seem to let it go
Thinks he knows what he needs to know
Life flipped a coin again and it sinks it's nails deeper
Because he prefers scratches and scrapes to change
He holds on to what he knows
Tries to resist the tidal flow
It's crystal clear he cannot win
Now he's shaken and he's worn and tired
The changes have set in despite a long drawn fight
Now he's lost the battle but he's won the day
Because life will find it's crooked way to survive
Can't seem to let it go
Thinks he knows what he needs to know
Life flipped a coin again and it sinks it's nails deeper
Because he prefers scratches and scrapes to change
He holds on to what he knows tries to resist the tidal flow
It's crystal clear he cannot win
Takes it's time, it can blow your mind
You can lock up your doors but it waits for you
Takes it's time, can blow your mind
You can lock up your doors but it waits for you
Oblivious
For me and you, my dear, I fear
That you don't know how strong I'm not
She opens up her pockets with candy full
He couldn't help but step on in and take a second look
Oblivious to what your mama said about that dangerous kind
Oblivious to that train of thought, oblivious to what you might find
For me and you, my dear, I fear
That you don't know how strong I'm not
I wish I could be free to be free
But these ears, these eyes have seen too much
And was what you found, was it wilder than your wildest dreams?
Did she take you there to the place you
always thought you should have been
Oh those candy sweets sometimes taste of sorrow
Though they look so sweet
Next time you choose, maybe read the palm
on the hand that lays underneath
For me and you, my dear, I fear
That you don't know how strong I'm not
I wish I could be free to be free
But these ears, these eyes have seen too much
Did anybody ask me, if I could, I would?
Did anybody ask me, if I cared, why not?
Digging it deeper
Join Me
Sit up and look straight out,
then thrust your head to the right
and thrust your head to the left and say
What's become of you?
And all the things you said you'd so
Just sitting around and hanging out
You're blowing my mind
The promises still unfilled
Well, I've believed you for long enough now
It's time to back on out
Stop putting my money down on you
Preaching about what life is about
The places you've been and seen
While all the time you're sinking
While I'm sitting there, playing games with my hair
Got a smile on my face while all the time I'm thinking
Where is the door here, where is the exit
Show me an easy way
Where is the window I've got to get out
And I wish you'd join me
Think of all the fun, the laughs that we could have
And I wish you'd join me
If you were happy where you were
I'd learn to shut my big mouth
And I wish you'd join me
But you won't want to
We're hitting thirty now
How the minutes, the hours, the days
And months have flown so fast
What once seemed to be in the present's
fallen to the past
Right before my eyes
Sitting on loads of wasted time
Don't have the time the space to sit and wait anymore
For you to decide to tow the line
While you sit and wait behind a closed up door
Won't anymore
Preaching about what life is about
The places you've been and seen
While all the time you're sinking
While I'm sitting there, playing games with my hair
Got a smile on my face while all the time I'm thinking
Where is the door here, where is the exit
Show me an easy way
Where is the window I've got to get out
And I wish you'd join me
Think of all the fun, the laughs that we could have
And I wish you'd join me
If you were happy where you were
I'd learn to shut my big mouth
And I wish you'd join me
Start turning some of those dreams into reality
And I wish you'd join me
But you won't want to, you won't want to.
April 22nd
Concentration's sinking rapidly by the second
The poetry that was in me doesn't seem
to live in me no more
The doubts are just growing like building blocks
Their blocking up my only door
The newspaper's I didn't read have caused infection
My method here has backfired
I tried to keep the Wolf back from my door
But instead it's howling out and keeps on coming back for more
Telling me there's more to this, two sides to the coin
You know more than anyone
That dark's replaced by the sun
Let the sun shine kiss you, the daylight play with your hair
Feel the voice within you, you're connected everywhere
To a source of beauty that's older than life
Can be colder than night
This road it was trod on a million times
Before I got here
I can see the footprints of many
And I even think I know quite a few
Living the yang and ying
Doesn't seem to get me through
I know it's a phase and that's the only medicine I can take
There are just times when the darkness
Seems to swallow up all the light
But there's always a peeping hole, that keeps out the cold
Telling me there's more to this, two sides to the coin
You know more than anyone
That dark's replaced by the sun
Let the sun shine kiss you, the daylight play with your hair
Feel the voice within you, you're connected everywhere
To a source of beauty that's older and bolder than life
May the wind caress you, take away your fears and your strife
Let you know you're there, at the source of light
At the source of night
Superficial
What's wrong? What's up?
How superficial can you be
When an evil man like he, can see more than you can see
Do you question your methods, question your way
As your crying on tons of peoples graves
And you call for strength for war
I've heard it all somewhere before
You're superficial
Oh the land of freedom with the snow white vest
Hiding thousands of bloodstains upon your chest
I sometimes ask myself if you would steal the air I breathe
Treat it like a movie that you've made
The part of the hero is the one you play
And you call for strength for war
I've heard it all somewhere before
The day will have to come (and now the winds are changing)
When all that you've done, it explodes in your face
in your mind (and now the penance is pending)
You've already six million notches on your belt and still maintain
You're innocent
Been here before, still here now
I fear that this will happen all again
The same old story over and over again
Round and round again
You're superficial
What's wrong? What's up?
With all my heartfelt sympathy
for the ones who lost their lives
because of superficiality
Invincible
Roll on, empty night
With your wheelin' and your dealin'
They happen after light
When the sun is softly sleeping
Take me in your arms
And engulf me in your beauty
caress me with the charms
that make me think you're evil, how?
You're not evil, how?
I'll climb up that ladder
And land on the moon
Where the earth, the earth seems penny-like
Where I seem
Invincible - to all I see and hear
Invincible - without an inkling of fear
I'm invincible to all I see, I am
Invincible - to all I see and hear
Invincible - without an inkling of fear
I'm invincible to all I see, I am
And the sun smiles it's happy face
And beams all over me
Wrap me in your dreams
That you carry on your wings tip
Take me to the fields, where the air it smells of horslips
Where colours have no name
And where I can leave no shadow
I can sit and watch the game
From the safe and gentle meadow
And climb up that ladder
And land on the moon
Where the earth, the earth seems penny-like
Where I seem
Invincible - to all I see and hear
Invincible - without an inkling of fear
I'm invincible to all I see, I am
Invincible - to all I see and hear
Invincible - without an inkling of fear
I'm invincible to all I see, I am
And the sun smiles it's happy face
And beams all over me
Too many Miracles
When that strange and gentle creature
Laid it's hands on me it filled me with it's light
And it chose me from the millions
Laid it's trust in me to nurture it to life
And then the colours explode around you
You don't feel like anyone
And joy is fear, and fear is joy
Why me, oh little one?
Fasten up your safety belts, you're in for a ride
I'm intent on, not demanding
too many miracles from you
Fasten up your safety belts, now it's you and I
Who'll claim the world, could always blame the world
Can't help but wonder how
This little being will be, getting bigger everyday
Can I do you justice, see what a mother should see
and guide you on your way
I don't have the information
you see I'm not equipped with know how
But nine months will make things clear
That's what everyone says, anyhow
Fasten up your safety belts, you're in for a ride
I'm intent on, not demanding
too many miracles from you
Fasten up your safety belts, now it's you and I
Who'll claim the world, could always blame the world
Tongue Tied
Look at me, I'm floating with glee
This whole thing's left me tongue tied
It's just left me so tongue tied
I can feel all the things I never knew where even there
The most wonderful things I've ever seen
The most wonderful place I've ever been
She slid in to this world
Tempo hundred, wet and wrinkled, arrived at last
My thumb sucking lady baby
Blue, from the waters that surround you
And I swear, despite every cry
despite every sigh
Inside everything I could feel
I feel more for you
And I swear, despite every cry
despite every sigh
Inside everything I could feel
Couldn't feel more for you
Look at me, I'm floating with glee
This whole thing's left me tongue tied
It's just left me so tongue tied
I can feel all the things I never knew where even there
Make believe has suddenly become so real
My skins crawling with sensations
I can feel a hunger, a need to do this right
To stand by you, to protect you through life
My thumb sucking, lady baby blue
My hearts pumped up full with love for you
And I swear, despite every cry
despite every sigh
Inside everything I could feel
I feel more for you
And I swear, despite every cry
despite every sigh
Inside everything I could feel
Couldn't feel more for you
This whole thing's left me tongue tied
It's just left me so tongue, tongue tied
Next stop Paris
The cups of coffee that I’ve spilt have left their stain upon the floor
On endless train rides to the meetings whos destination is no-where
That I would wanna be, where all is said is full of hot air when all I want to see
Are results to the endless work that me and mine have put in this
The journey to the tops a long one don’t know when it will end
So much heart and so much soul that I don’t want to see it go to waste
Is it too much I’m asking for never having enough always wanting more
There’s a voice inside my head that knows more than me, keeps telling me
Next stop’s Paris in the springtime and then Rome when all France is done
Then through England, then onto Homeground, back there where I belong
And I’ll never give up, never give up, never give up on me
And as soon as you can leave your mark, say what you want to say to life
Your graced with jealousy and envy, constantly critisized
I wonder why this is my aim, you want the music you must play the game
The hippy in me wants to rent an old vw bus,
just ride and play and sing to people forget the whole big fuss
of record deals and radios, the flash red carpets and the videos
This is my saviour to sing this song, the notes have given so much to me
I won’t hold my breath, I’ll just carry on and hope and hope
That I am well upon my way, trust in the voices and what they say
Next stop’s Paris in the springtime and then Rome when all France is done
Then through England, then onto Homeground, back there where I belong
And I’ll never give up, never give up, never give up on me
It's all an Illusion
It's all an illusion, what they do and what they say
What they know and what they tell me
doesn't matter anyway
It's relative, as it has always been
If the truth be told, I'm living on their whim
So what's the use in me asking
what decisions have been made?
On topics that may just decide
who might dig my grave today
Who's lives are in my hands?
Who's hands are in my life?
If I just keep going, one day I'll get it right
Don't stand in my way, don't block my sun
Don't stand in my light, because I am the one
t's all an illusion, what they say is wrong, is right
Now I'm not saying I know better
But I know there's grey between black and white
It's all a case of which side you're on
That helps you to decide who is right and who is wrong
And what's the basis of decision
How do you know what is the truth
Because politics survives on lies
Without them, politics no use
Give me a place a place aside, where I can watch for mine
Where we can live how we choose
Be no threat to you and yours
Don't stand in my way, don't block my sun
Don't stand in my light, because I am the one
Not you
Try again
He's beating her up and beating her down
she can't see
He's holding her back and holding her down
she won't weep
He's scraping her soul and making her cold
she can't feel
He's taken her youth and making her old
she don't care
Thinks this must be Hollywood
She can breathe though no one else could
Though the cushion from the sofa's on her face
You're fabulous, is what she should say
You're fabulous
And inside, there is a beating heart
But she can't snap on out of it, snap on out of it
And stand up and tell this wicked man
That he's fucking full of it, fucking full of it
Gather what's left on this stone cold floor
and try again, try again
He's eating her up and taking her power
she can't see
She's learning the tricks and learning the trade
she won't weep
She's got to be good, learn how to behave
and he won't strike
She's got to be quick, learn how to accept
That he is right
Beginning to see the blame
Written in big letters is her name
On the scars that are burned inside
They don't heal
She used to be fabulous, the talk of the town
She was fabulous
And inside, there is a beating heart
But she can't snap on out of it, snap on out of it
And stand up and tell this wicked man
That he's fucking full of it, fucking full of it
Take your love, wrapped up in pretty parcels
and get on out of here, get on out of here
Gather what's left on this stone cold floor
Try again, try again, try again
The Place you want to be
Feel the breeze, and breathe in, and breathe in
Take your time, gather up all your energy
You will need it to overcome, all the hurdles that stand in your way
You've lost a love that was so pure
Makes you feel uncertain, so insecure in this new role
weeping widow, no more wife
Still, drink deep from what's left of him on you
Takes time, time is the cure
Right now it seems so obscure
But one day the clouds will vanish from your eyes
And see the rays of the sunbeams
That shine their light upon you
The rain from the grey skies
Tears of laughter sink in through you
the green from the hillsides
That are there to allow you to run free
Run on towards the place you want to be
The place you want to be
The place you want to be
Now it's time to look forward and to let go
Let your feelings flow towards what you know take you
to another step upon your way
What once seemed hard, the early morning, the empty bed
The things he said have now become
no more than a distant memory
You, reap from the wisdom that you never knew was there
One morning you will wake, despite the time that will take
You'll learn to greet a new day with an open smile
and see the rays of the sunbeams
That shine their light upon you
The rain from the grey skies
Tears of laughter sink in through you
the green from the hillsides
That are there to allow you to run free
Run on towards the place you want to be
The place you want to be
The place you want to be
The Toy Song
Sweat stained wet T-shirts and skinny legs with painted lips are
Standing on bar stool with numbers, so all of us can see
They’re available, up for sale, free for a ride
Take them in and check them out but take your time with your choice
Sex hungry faces are frothing from the mouth
as if number twelve wasn’t twelve years old
I’m feeling so tired, all I want to do is sleep
Not dealing with this mess outside
I’m feeling so tired, all I want to do is sleep
Not dealing, must be dreaming
Fooling yourself into thinking you're number one
You're not a job, you're ego is out on the run
in search of a buzz
even though you have so much to loose
Armani hanging on the bedpost, briefcase tucked well away
Respectable, impregnable in every other way
But this is your weak spot, your black spot, excuses
That help you to justify what you and I know deep inside
Is no less than exploition of youth, of innocence
Or is that what turns you on in the first place
I’m feeling so tired, all I want to do is sleep
Not dealing with this mess outside
I’m feeling so tired, all I want to do is sleep
Not dealing
Can't hold back from asking why
All the ones who have been destroyed
for the sake of an hour, that feeling of power
This picture's all wrong
In the middle of this whole mess
We're all fighting with loneliness
You know how I feel?
I feel I must be, must be dreaming
I’m feeling so tired, all I want to do is sleep
Not dealing with this mess outside
I’m feeling so tired, all I want to do is sleep
Not dealing
