Shirley Grimes & Friends
Shirley Grimes has begun her journey back to her roots – back to folk music. 18 years ago she left her home of Ireland and began her musical journey. This journey took her very far away from her Irish roots, so far, that she one day began to miss them. After her decision to end her decade long musical relationship with her band ‘The insiders’ was made, Shirley found herself free to look back in order to look forward and has now handed us the result in the form of her new, mainly acoustic album ‘The long road home’. In Summer 2011 she completed the recordings of her sixth Album with the musicians Veronika Stalder (Fiddle/Vocals), Samuel Baur (Percussion/Vocals), Wolfgang Zwiauer (Mandocello/Bass) and guest Vera Kappeller (Piano/Harmonium). The Album successfully combines traditional and contemporary Irish Folk with a touch of American Folk.
Shirley Grimes hasn’t re-created herself. She has just taken another step on her musical journey. A journey filled with unmistakably beautiful songs.

Shirley Grimes Solo
Shirley has worked with Mich Gerber, The Lovebugs, Mat Callahan, Trummer, The Song Circus, Simon Ho, The Moondog Show and many, many others. Few, very few, have had the pleasure of hearing Shirley solo. This is mainly because she only rekindled her relationship with solo performances in 2009 after she decided to split with her band of ten years; ‘The Insiders’.
Shirley generally goes home when she goes solo. Her songs include many traditional Irish Ballads and a selection of her own written material. Her solo performances are suited to small intimate events such as private Birthday parties, Christmas dinners, Weddings or as a support artist for major acts (Shirley has previously played support for Luka Bloom, Van Morrison and Bonnie Riatt)

Shirley Grimes und Joe McHugh - Irish Traditional Quartet
The longstanding friendship and musical relationship between Shirley and Joe is what led to this project. Four talented musicians offer a spectacle of traditional Irish Music and Song. Joe McHugh (Uillean Pipes and Whistles) who was awarded the all Ireland champion piper award lends Shirley’s songs colour and shows his speed and diversity then when he plays Reels and Jigs. Shirley Grimes’ (vocals & Guitar) wonderful voice has become a treasure within the Swiss Music scene and with a huge repertoire of traditional songs gives us a peek at what Irish music has to offer.
Together with their friends Veronika Stalder (fiddle & vocals) and Wolfgang Zwiauer (Bass & Mandocello) they take us on a trip through the musical landscape of Ireland, which includes not only the mournful song and the fast jig, but many other facets of Irish Traditional Music.

Sish - Simon Ho & Shirley Grimes
Simon Ho, the Swiss born Pianist and Composer and Shirley Grimes, the Irish born Singer and Songwriter have worked together in several different formations over the past 8 years. They began their musical collaboration with the ‘Ho Orchestra’ in 2002, where Shirley lent her voice to Simon’s compositions along with other performers such as Henk Hofstede (The Nits), Väärtina, Vera Van der Poel and several others. This Orchestra led to the formation of the Band ‘Winterreise’ which toured every Winter between 2004 and 2007. Since 2007, Simon and Shirley have worked together as a duo doing select performances in small clubs, sitting rooms and where ever there is a nice piano and good people. They have taken songs from both their repertoires, added a few new pieces and have re-arranged them to suit one piano and one voice. They are due to record a live CD any day now…..

Hank Shizzoe, Heidi Happy, Pink Pedrazzi, Chris Wicky, Valeska Steiner, Coal, Trummer, Nadia Stoller, Adrian Weyermann, Mich Gerber, The Lovebugs, Mat Callahan, Yvonne Moore, The Moondog Show, are some of the names with which Shirley has worked over the past few years. She has either joined these people on stage or in studio, to lend her voice to their projects or has helped to created new projects such as ‘The Song Circus’ or Trummers ‘Hootenanny.’
One of Shirley’s secret passions is background vocals so, don’t be afraid to ask…
Shirley Grimes & The Insiders
The Insiders apparently played their final concert in January 2010. This concert was quickly followed by a ‘reunion’ concert at the Bundesplatz in Bern in May 2010. Nobody really knows where the insiders are going. Fact is, officially, Shirley Grimes and the Insiders have gone their separate ways. Fact is, unofficially, there are rumors of them playing a concert in Italy some time this year. The only thing that is certain is that they remain friends and respectful of each other’s choices. Shirley Grimes and the insiders spent the best part of 10 years together, produced three albums (and several children) together and still enjoy each others company. Let us see what happens…
